As an adult, I need to remind myself that I am getting better at things and improving in my life, but as a kid, we believe in ourselves as a matter of course.
We need to let go of perfection and embrace ourselves as being on a journey in order to receive the delight of believing we are getting better in every way every day. If we believe we are done, or that we’ve already figured out how to be and that we’re great at it, it doesn’t leave room for us to try, make mistakes, and improve.
We gain a lot from getting positive feedback for our actions, but as we get older, we lose a lot of that positive chorus. We can provide it for ourselves, though, and I believe that showering ourselves with praise for what we’ve done well provides a huge amount of motivation and reward.Support the show
