Our mind is constructed to show us contrast and compare things. Unfortunately, this results in having unrealistic expectations about how we’re doing in life.
Rather than experiencing life as something that happens through us and with us, most of us experience it as something happening to us, or not happening to us.
We all try to live our best life, but it’s an annoying sentiment. It sets us up to wonder if we’re not doing good enough or best enough.
The wave of quiet quitting and quiet firing that’s made headlines lately highlights that we are becoming aware of unrealistic expectations about how we should spend our time and if we should constantly be striving for striving’s sake or if it’s OK to just enjoy our lives and do what needs doing without adding stress on top of that.
I’d argue that you’re doing your life just fine. You’re going to get better at stuff just by showing up and doing stuff each day. Yes, if it brings you joy, you can focus on that. But if it doesn’t you aren’t lesser or bad for finding your enjoyment and peace elsewhere.Support the show
